This is a summary for new readers.About 5 years ago, I developed adult onset phimosis. It started really slowly and took about 3 years to reach the stage you see in the picture on the left.
Characterised by a white, hardened ring on the upper portion of the foreskin, this form of phimosis has no known cause. I'm not sure it is BXO and since there is no inflammation of the head, its not balanitis.
Nevertheless, it is phimosis and it had gotten to the point where I could no longer have sex without pain and bleeding. I read up about it and immediately decided not to see a doctor, considering I knew they would either prescribe steroidal creams or circumcise.
So I tried wrapping my penis in plastic wrap every night, after slopping manuka honey on.
Actually, besides the hard, constricting ring on my foreskin, I had also developed a small patch of whitish bumps on my glans. These disappeared after two nights of honey treatment. This convinced me to keep up with the honey wraps, because I didn't notice much progress on the foreskin at first.
I kept it up for months, and did receive enough improvement to be able to have sex again, without pain.
That's where I still am now. I haven't been able to completely get rid of the white ring, but it doesn't cause me any problems.
I'm trying tea tree oil now (manuka honey comes from tea trees), hoping that maybe that is where the active ingredient is more concentrated, but it stings incredibly. If the tea tree oil does completely cure the white ring, I will post about that in the future.

Hi, I've been experiencing the same sort of symptoms and not really fond of surgery or long term steroid cream use. It's interesting you mention the honey treatment because I'd read some research the other day that high sugar diets increase urine sugar levels and can make these sorts of things worse, diabetics have been known to suffer from it at times. Have you ever heard of Propolis? it's a natural anti-fungal antibacterial substance produced by bees to keep bacteria out of their hives so I would guess that it would contain the health benefits of honey but without the sugar. It's worth a try at least :)
I've just been researching this topic, and found your blog. Thank you very much for documenting your experience, and posting pictures -- they were dishearteningly familiar to me, but the difference and improvement you show is encouraging.
Please keep us updated on any further advances or changes, especially regarding the tea-tree oil.
Thanks for giving us your experiences. I too was diagnosed with BXO and wanted to try anything rather than surgery. I bought some UMF 20+ Manuka Honey and within a week the symptoms had all but vanished.
Trouble is not knowing if it will re-appear if I stop the honey treatment.

However I found that it did not matter what I tried, it was only a temporary fix to the outwards symptoms of BXO Balanitis.

Hey guys, I figured out how to get that white skin to peel away!
I've had BXO and was able to overcome it with out medical treatment. This was so scary at first but once you understand what it is and have a plan of action those fears subside. This may take a few weeks, but please please please do not be discouraged. This is a difficult skin disorder and it occurs slowly so obviously to get rid of it will take a little time.
First buy 100% tea tree oil. and 100% certified emu oil. BOTH OF THESE MUST BE PURE and from a reputable company. After that find a small bottle that you can mix these two ingredients together. I'd say 3 teaspoons of emu oil and 15 drops of tea tree oil. At first it may sting a little but thats ok. Apply 5 times a day or whenever you feel like the mixture has been absorbed into your skin.
Next, go to the store and pick up 100% PURE salmon oil (make sure it is only salmon oil and not the cheap stuff that is mixed with other fish oils). Also grab a bottle of vitamin A. Take the fish oil as directed (probably about 3000 MG per day) both of these are extremely good for inflammation and skin issues.
Cut all sugar and fake sugar out of your diet!!! Viruses and bacteria live off of these components. Also stay away from packaged and processed food. Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat and quit the desserts.
I know this sucks, but its so worth it to rid yourself of this horrible disease.
Follow this regime for at least 3-4 weeks minimum. I'd be interested to know your progress. It only took a few weeks for me to see tremendous results. I tried so many different things and finally found something that worked. The white skin started to peel away and was replaced by fresh new skin.

I have the same problem as you. I'm 16 and embarrased to show my penis to a girl with the lights on. i have the tight ring and the white bumps. I found out that the white bumps are called pearly penile papules. I HATE THEM. Im secretly scared to get cirumsized and ive tried many other methods including steroid and testosterone creams. Just started using the tea tree oil and emu oil treatment. First off the tea tree oil and emu oil are very expensive but more importantly mixed together or used on their own it hurts like a son of a bitch and it stings for hours. As I said I've only just started using the treatment but I'm not sure if I'll keep it up because of the pain. If anyone knows a less painful way of treating this please let me know. Thanks

I have the same problem, and i founded something that's working for me the treatment consist for 10 days take a bath 3 times a day for 15 minutes each time, with warm water and add 1/4 cup of vinegar + add salt in the water, after dry for 10 minutes with your foreskin open. Go to the pharmacy by a tube of antifungal cream that as CLOTRIMAZOL tipical cream USP 1%, and apply 3 times a day, you should get rid of your problems after 10 days. If that doesn't work see a doctor.

Hi all, I struggle with BXO and it is very uncomfortable.
do NOT use a steroid creme, it will just thin the skin and then you might scar your foreskin.
BXO is a virus and you CAN rid yourself of it naturally!
1. Cut out all sugar from your diet.
2. Get a bottle of DMSO, a powerful solvent, and mix it with tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is good on its own but the DMSO penetrates the hard white skin and kills the virus easily.

Most treatment methods for phimosis involve enlarging the opening of the foreskin. Some phimosis home treatment methods involve the use of steroidal creams, which should be applied directly onto the foreskin. I used hydrogen peroxide. I am happy to say it worked well and i only did it once so far. This morning i couldnt retract my foreskin without ripping myskin. I was in a very hot bath so my skin pores would be wide open. I slowly retracted my foreskin so my bxo was exposed to the very hot water. Soaked for a couple mins poured hydrogen peroxide into a cup. Dipped my penis into the cup. Soaked my penis in the peroxide. Not a minute later sweet sweet relief. I could pull my foreskin back with no pain and with ease. My skin used to be so tight i had a blood blister. That was gone too . Pls try it it worked great for me i hope it works for you.

I had a mild recurrence a couple years ago, and because the honey was so messy, I tried applying iodine (I used lugols) to the ring with a cotton bud, twice a day. It burned a little, and after a few days, dead skin started to come off.
I kept it up for about a month, and was finally 100% cured.
Somebody referenced this blog in a forum somewhere I forget, and he said he thought it was caused by yeast. Either way I figured its probably caused by some virus, bacteria, or yes, yeast - so I figured a strong antiseptic like iodine would work as well as a mild, though powerful one like manuka honey. And it did, and because it was so much easier to work with, I could easily keep it up, so I got better results in the end.
Incidentally, I have also "quit sugar", which has overall been good for my skin - no more pimples, less oiliness, less BO, and I've had no recurrence of phimosis - it may be coincidental, but eliminating sugar from your diet is only a good thing, so worth a try if you're fighting phimosis.

I suffered from adult onset phimotic ring tightening like the image at the top of this blog. It came from nowhere in my 30s last year.
I wanted to tell you how this blog helped me. It put me onto the idea of leaving the foreskin retracted as much as possible. I did retract 24/7 initially while using the standard steroid/anti-fungal cream for 7 days. There was some improvement. I still had the white band, but it was less tight and sore. I had a relapse after about a month, when I allowed the foreskin to be in its normal position (covering glans). The phimotic ring/band was tighter than ever after sex and had several excruciatingly painful splits after sex. The GP said circumcision was now the only course of action. :(
I was not keen on the circumcision option. the main reason was the removal of all the nerve rich sensitive skin. i.e. a lot of de-sensitivity would result from the removal of foreskin.
I tried another week of the steroid cream and this time I decided to leave the foreskin retracted after the 7 days. I read that sugar rich urine passing the phimotic ring (urinating with foreskin in normal position) can lead to BXO flourishing; this along with the warm permanently moist environment of the phimotic ring area of foreskin.
Anyway, it stayed retracted quite easily with some semi tight cotten boxer shorts. it was a little sensitive for the first week, but it was seriously worth it. I wouldn't even know its retracted these days a couple of months on. Feels just like before I had any issues. It dried out nicely and the tight white skin slowly became pink and healthy again. I did some light finger stretches (2 fingers in the foreskin and gentle stretch) in the shower each day, and I also made sure I completely dried afterward with clean towel/tissue/hair dryer. Having this area not moist is the key I think. about 2 months on now, and I have NO evidence of the white phimotic band. The area is pink skin like the rest of the foreskin. also, I have zero tightening even during erections. No hourglass shape. everything perfect. No splits or discomfort at all during sex. I feel like a new person. seriously. What a huge relief. My glans is just as soft/sensitive as it ever was. So I feel like I have gained all the benefits of circumcision with none of the drawbacks. I still have great sensitivity in the foreskin etc during sex. So, that would be my advice. Try this out before considering the more drastic options. I know some peoples foreskin won't stay retracted on its own etc, so it might not work for all.

Summary: use the steroid/anti-fungal combo cream on the ring for a week (or perhaps iodine as the last guy said). This will kill the immediate outbreak. Then leave the foreskin retracted back permanently. The area will dry out and no more tightness. Do light stretching in the shower. I am 100% cured now with zero evidence of the horrible tight white band I had while erect which caused pain and splits. Just pink healthy skin and comfortable sex. Hope this helps someone.
